My family is big on pets, especially dogs. Growing up, I've had at least two dogs in my life at all times. Once my family moved to our acreage, it was fitting to add a cat to the family, not only for our pleasure but to keep the house free from mice!
One day, my father was working and found a kitten near one of the grain elevators. She was abandoned, no more than a month old, with bright orange fur puffing out in every direction. Almost immediately, he was under her spell of adorableness and he brought her straight home. When the rest of the family met her, we knew she was going to stay with us.
Once she got some food in her she really began to show her personality, and it was time to pick a name. We tossed around a few generic names but nothing seemed to fit until I came up with Elle–short for elevator, so we'd always remember how she came to us.
