Lethbridge Gets Walking for Alzheimer’s Disease!

on Monday, 25 June 2012. Posted in General

Lethbridge and area residents contributed to raising more than $240,000 province-wide for families in Alberta and the Northwest Territories living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as part of the Investors Group Memory Walk on June 16. There were 140 walkers who participated on the walk. Lethbridge nearly doubled last year's pledges by raising $34,000 this year.

Walks were held in six communities reaching from Yellowknife in the north to Lethbridge in the south, with participants showing their support in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. The funds raised support the work of the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT to help those impacted by the disease to encourage confidence and skills to maintain quality of life and to support research into the causes, effective treatments, and a cure.

Currently more than 40,000 Albertans are living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and, if nothing is done, our aging population will bring a rising tide of dementia with alarming economic and social costs. The time to act is now.
