City census shows continued growth, particularly on West side

The City of Lethbridge continues to grow with the official 2012 census results at 89,074, an increase of 1.36 per cent over the 2011 municipal census numbers. The strongest growth occurred in West Lethbridge with 784 new residents. There was a slight increase in the population of North and South Lethbridge as well.
"The census results reflect the City remains a vibrant, dynamic community showing a continued sustainable growth pattern", says Mayor Rajko Dodic. "The stable growth experienced allows the City to plan for the future more effectively."
The City of Lethbridge continues to perform a census every year as it provides us an accurate count for provincial and federal funding. Funding received from these sources will be used for facilities such as the Community Arts Centre, Twin Ice Arenas and the new cemetery.
The City is pleased with the commitment of the census takers and the response from residents. "The participation of residents in our yearly census is greatly appreciated," says David Sarsfield, Deputy City Clerk. "Without the participation and cooperation of our residents, we would not be able to collect the information that we require." The census taker asked for the number of people living in the household, their age and gender.
