Kayla Nash
By Kayla Nash, Lethbridge living Intern
Hi regular blog readers, I’m new here.
I’m Kayla and am with Lethbridge living through the practicum program at Lethbridge College. I’m a second year student in print journalism and started about two weeks ago.
I’ve known the staff at Lethbridge living for almost two years now and am glad to be back with the magazine. I did a practicum with the magazine through a different program at the college, and did a bit of volunteer work over the summer.
So far, I’ve indulged in some of the routine magazine tasks that occur. No, I’m not running around getting coffees, I’ve worked on database entries as well as stuffing envelopes for mail out.
OK, maybe that doesn’t sound too exciting but it’s all part of the magazine process and I’m more than glad to do it. I’ve also been able to proof a few ads and articles.
The most exciting part of my two weeks has been receiving my story assignment. My very first story for the magazine is a business profile on HiTech Bracing.
Even though I write stories as a print journalism student for the college newspaper, the Endeavour, writing for a magazine is different than writing hard news.
I was a bit nervous but excited to conduct my interview. It went really well and now I can’t wait to start writing the story.
