Award Nomination Anticipation

Though February is the shortest of all 12 months it certainly did not lack in busyness or excitement.

Apart from writing for Lethbridge Home Trends as I mentioned in my previous blog, I've been prepping for this week's Alberta Magazines Conference.

I had the pleasure of going to the conference last year with Lethbridge living, and it was an incredible learning experience. I went home with tons more knowledge about the industry (and a lot more free pens) then I had gone in with.

This year, however, I'm slightly more excited, not because my pen supply is due for a restock, but Jenn and the staff have nominated me for Alberta Magazines Volunteer of the Year award.

I've never been nominated for anything before, so this has been extra exciting for me. I'm thankful for the nomination, not to mention anxious for the results. I worked on the nomination form for about a week or so, and am excited for the awards to take place on Thursday!

In addition to the article I wrote for the March/April of Lethbridge living, I also worked on an online component. If you're interested in getting into skateboarding, it's somewhat of a go-to guide. Peter Barry, of Boarderline, explained the gear and some tips that made me believe even I could skateboard.

February 29 was a special day. Not because it only happens every four years but because I had the pleasure of attending the Galt Museum's Artifact or Fiction game on behalf of Lethbridge living. You had to determine which Galt employee or volunteer was telling the truth about a certain artifact.

Out of the four items I got two correct, which was a surprise to me because it was incredibly hard to tell who was lying about the objects use and who was telling the truth.

Now that it is already almost the end of March my brain is trying to comprehend that I am nearly done with my post-secondary education. There's a lot to still look forward to, including my new story assignment for the next issue of the magazine!
