Sifting Through the Research

If you've been following this year's series on ghost towns, I'm sad to say it's over but I'm also glad to be starting something new. For our November/December issue we featured Lille in the Crowsnest Pass. You haven't heard of this once booming mining town? It's actually one of the more popular ghost towns in the area. With this popularity comes a flood of stories, news articles and Google searches, all about Lille. Some stories are credible, some not. This is where the fun part comes in.

Still Enjoying this Internship

Another two weeks have gone by at Lethbridge living and I'm still enjoying myself.

I've had a bit of a break from database entry and been doing a lot of editing stories for the upcoming January/February issue.

I feel as though my story assignment went really well. It was a bit difficult to write at first. Because I am so used to news writing at school, writing for a magazine was a change.
I also no longer sit alone in my large boardroom as fellow classmate, Paige, has joined me. (Be sure to check out her blog!)

Gift-wrap, Coffee and Hives

A week into my practicum with Lethbridge living and I no longer have mild panic attacks when I walk through the front door.

As a second-year print journalism student at Lethbridge College, I don't normally consider shyness a character trait of mine. However, something about working with an actual magazine initially inspired some fear.

On my first day I had countless worries, ranging from my choice of footwear to my lack of knowledge when it comes to coffee. In my mind, there is a direct correlation between interns and coffee. For the record, if given the choice, I would rather do a shoe-run than coffee-run. I can gladly tell you the difference between a loafer and a sneaker, but when it comes to a mochaccino and macchiato, I get hives.
